The children most seriously injured Wednesday when their school bus overturned on Interstate 95 are doing better, a hospital official said.
Two of the children who were flown to Johns Hopkins Pediatrics Center in Baltimore were released on Thursday, said Katerina Pesheva, a spokeswoman for the hospital.
“As of now, we have two children still in the hospital, and their conditions have been upgraded from fair to good,” she said.
A state police spokesman said none of the names of the children ? ages 8 to 10 ? would be released until after the accident investigation unit determined what caused the accident.
Almost all of the children on the bus were injured, rescue workers said. The less seriously hurt were taken to hospitals in Harford and Cecil counties.
About 60 children and adult chaperones from a camp in Philadelphia were on the bus when it sideswiped or was sideswiped by a tractor-trailer around 5 p.m. Wednesday, state police said. The group was returning home from a visit to the National Aquarium in Baltimore.
Crash investigators were working at the scene well into Wednesday, during heavy rain, to learn the cause of the crash. But they were still uncertain Thursday as to whether the bus driver, who is only identified as an 18-year-old male with a Pennsylvania commercial driver?s license or the driver of the rig, a 41-year-old male with a Maryland commercial driver?s license, was at fault.
Sgt. Thornie Rouse, a state police spokesman, said names of all of those involved in the accident would be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
“No one has been charged, and there no charges are expected to be filed today,” he said Thursday.
