Woman found dead in Riverdale apartment
Police are investigating the death of a woman found in Riverdale on Friday night.
Prince George’s County police found the woman’s body in her apartment on the 5600 block of Kennedy Street at about 8:30 p.m. The woman had suffered trauma to the upper body, but police provided no further details on her cause of death.
Police did not immediately have information regarding suspects in the case.
Police shoot man in Southeast
D.C. police shot a man after responding to reports of a domestic dispute in Southeast D.C. on Friday afternoon.
Officers found a woman in the street and 24-year-old Albert Jermaine Payton wielding a knife when they arrived at the 4200 block of 4th Street S.E., at about 5:47 p.m. Police said two officers shot Payton after he refused orders to put down the knife and approached the officers while armed.
D.C. Fire and EMS officials took Payton to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
At least one of the people at the scene disputed the officer’s version of what happened, saying Payton complied with police but was still shot, according to WJLA.
The department’s Internal Affairs division is conducting an investigation of the case.
Suspect in fatal police chase held without bond
The second suspect arrested in connection with a car chase that left a Prince George’s County police officer dead is being held without bond.
Fort Washington resident Kevon Darnell Neal, 23, turned himself into police on Thursday night. Neal and District resident Kenneth Clark Mitchell, 24, are both charged with felony theft of $10,000 to $100,000 for the stolen Acura involved in the police pursuit and crash.
Officers Adrian Morris and Michael Risher were following the suspects on Interstate 95 when their police cruiser veered off the road. Morris was killed in the crash.
