Mitch McConnell: I’ll support Rand Paul in 2016

Mitch McConnell has Rand Paul’s back in 2016.

Two days after a victorious midterm elections, the Senate Minority Leader did not want to talk about his political future. Instead, he focused on his fellow Kentucky senator, Rand Paul.

If Paul runs for the White House in 2016, he’ll also have to run for re-election for his Senate seat.

McConnell shrugged off the idea that Paul would struggle with the undertaking.

“[It’s] not tricky at all,” McConnell told the Lexington Daily-Herald. “Obviously, I’m a big supporter of Rand Paul. We’ve developed a very tight relationship, and I’m for him.”

While acknowledging Paul’s position as “complicated,” McConnell did say that “he’ll be able to count on me” whatever decision he makes.

“I don’t think he’s made a final decision on that,” McConnell said of Rand Paul’s 2016 run.

According to a RealClearPolitics average of polls, Paul leads the GOP field of 11 potential candidates, though he is barely ahead of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
