It felt like this was one of those stories that just snuck up on everyone — except for my dad. He told me about it early on, but it wasn’t getting a whole lot of “play” in the D.C. press. Apparently, it was all over the place in the midwest (Ohio, my old stomping ground) and elsewhere. The particulars of Judge Roy Pearson’s case were so absurd that I originally hesitated commenting on it. It seemed redundant to draw a cartoon about such a wacky situation. However, with the verdict now read — and a lesson to be learned from it — I decided it was time to finally put pen to paper on the topic.
