The graduation of 2,074 yards worth of Thunder and Lightning — fullback Eric Kettani and slot back Shun White — left Navy with major holes to fill in its triple option offense.
But with the emergence of sophomore slot back Marcus Curry, combined with the passing and running ability of quarterback Ricky Dobbs, the Midshipmen can begin to chart the course to a seventh straight bowl appearance.

Saturday in a 32-14 win over Louisiana Tech, Curry carried 15 times for 124 yards. The previous week, in a 31-27 loss at Ohio State, Curry caught two touchdown passes covering 101 yards.
“The great thing about Marcus is the sky’s the limit for him,” said Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo.
Curry has good sped and is bigger than most Navy slot backs at 5-11, 200. He fell through the recruiting cracks despite leading one of the nation’s elite high school teams, Hebron High of Carrollton, Texas to a 16-0 record and a 4A state title in 2005.
