BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Two Beaumont men have been arrested in the investigation of more than 70 incidents of copper stolen in Southeast Texas.

Jefferson County jail records show 20-year-old Treyvon Eugene Cunningham was being held Friday with no bond set on two counts of metal theft. Jail records show 19-year-old Justin Ray Book was no longer in custody on the same counts.

Jail officials had no information on attorneys for the men, who were arrested Thursday after police responded to a call about a possible copper theft.

Officer Carol Riley says Cunningham and Book were located at an apartment complex and evidence was seized. Police say as many as 73 copper thefts possibly could be linked to the men.

Police had created a special investigative unit amid a recent rash of metal thefts.
