D.C. food mogul Jose Andres was named the nation’s most outstanding chef on Monday at the James Beard Foundation awards. Andres, who is known for his local hotspots Jaleo, Oyamel, minibar and Zaytinya, has been credited for the surge in the popularity of tapas, not only in D.C., but also across the country.
“Food is the most powerful thing we have in our hands. Not only chefs, but everyone in the food community. The right use of food can end hunger,” Andres said while accepting his award. “We have the responsibility to make sure that not only our great nation, but the world will always be better using food in the right way.”
