Metro plans to offer a challenge to computer developers: Take our transit data and make software applications to help riders get around better.
The transit agency said Friday that it plans to announce the challenge on Monday evening as it meets with developers to discuss its new open-data policy.
It then plans to open the data flood gates on Wednesday, giving anyone access to its real-time rail data by just a single click agreeing to the terms of use. Metrobus data should be ready by fall, according to Metro.
The idea is to improve access for people with disabilities and integrate the region’s various modes so riders can get from bus to train to bike path more easily.
