Hollywood Writers Strike Hits Home

Last night, I was watching David Letterman — whose guests included a guy who could chug beer through his nose — when it dawned on me that it was a rerun because of the writers strike. I immediately started thinking about what kind of cartoon I could draw. There are obvious gags about writers and picket signs, but after revisiting the topic this morning, I came up with the above cartoon. I remembered seeing a story a while back about how a growing number of Americans stay informed via late-night talk shows, and the idea clicked into place. What will we do without The Daily Show or Jay Leno’s monologue? Who will tell us what to think? How will we know which words President Bush is mispronouncing? I guess there’s always YouTube.
