A former contract employee at the federal courts in Maryland has been accused of taking bribes to falsify drug tests for people on probation or parole.
A federal grand jury in Greenbelt has indicted 50-year-old Lauren Jeannette Diggs, of Rockville, on charges of conspiracy to seek and accept a bribe, witness tampering and making false statements to the grand jury. The indictment was unsealed Tuesday.
According to prosecutors, Diggs was a senior substance abuse counselor for ADR, a company that provides alcohol and drug treatment services. ADR has a contract with the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services in Maryland to provide drug tests.
The six-count indictment alleges that for the last three years, Diggs, Christopher Womack, who was employed at ADR as a urine technician, and others sought bribes to provide certificates claiming the defendants passed their drug tests.
The cost for one fake result was about $400.
Prosecutors estimated that the conspirators made about $15,000.
Womack, 43, of Forestville, pleaded guilty to bribery in July, and his case was made public Tuesday.
