All torn up about keeping Boskovic in?

Branko Boskovic hadn’t gotten a chance from D.C. United, and now it appears the team might not have him at all for possibly four to six months after The Washington Examiner first reported Friday that he tore the ACL in his left knee.

Boskovic was United’s best player in its 4-0 loss to New York on April 21. Five days later, he was a man among boys even as United found itself down 3-0 in the second half of a far less meaningful U.S. Open Cup qualifier vs. New England.

But instead of taking Boskovic out of a contest he shouldn’t have been in to save him for the next regular-season match, United stuck with him against the Revolution, watched him score twice and then limp off with what was initially called a knee contusion.

A 3-2 scoreline for a massive injury that hurts both D.C. United and the Montenegro national team, which could be without a starter as it tries to qualify for Euro 2012?

Not a fair trade at all.
