June was the highest month for workforce participation in the United States in seven years, according to a new Gallup poll.
Gallup’s long-running survey of U.S. adults found that the number of people employed full- or part-time or actively seeking work peaked in June, at 68.6 percent.
The June 1-30 results from more than 30,000 adults found that the workforce participation rate increased 0.6 percent from May and was more than 1 point higher than last June’s rate. The second-highest recorded workforce participation percentage since the survey’s 2010 inception was 68.5 percent in April 2013 and June 2013.
The overall percentage of U.S. adults employed full time rose nearly 1 percentage point to 46.3 percent from May to June, the highest since President Trump took office in January. The highest recorded rate in the seven-year “Gallup Good Jobs” survey was documented at 47.1 percent last July. Gallup’s findings indicate the economy may be on an upward trajectory, though federal jobs numbers for the month of June will be the ultimate indicator.
The unemployment rate remained at 5.2 percent in June, the same as a year earlier. Another 13.6 percent of adults said they are underemployed.The survey was conducted by landline and cellphone with a national sampling of adults and had a 1 percentage point margin of error.
