NEW YORK (AP) — Police say a 35-year-old Massachusetts man driving a tractor trailer in the Bronx was killed when he was struck in the head by a dislodged manhole cover that had crashed through his windshield.

It happened on the Cross Bronx Expressway near Jerome Avenue at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say Jose Duran, of Springfield, was pinned inside the vehicle, which had collided with another tractor trailer. Duran was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. No other injuries were reported.

Police continue to investigate.
