Danica Patrick has won over fans on Capitol Hill

NASCAR’s fans on Capitol Hill are cheering newbie Danica Patrick, driver of the No. 10 GoDaddy car. “I’m a huge fan,” said Sen. Jon Kyl R-Ariz. “First of all she’s from Scottsdale, Arizona.”

But for long-time race fan Kyl, considered Capitol Hill’s Mr. NASCAR, it’s also because she’s a straight-shooter and can hang with the boys. “She acknowledges when she doesn’t know something and it’s refreshing to see somebody to says, ‘Boy, I’ve got a lot to learn.’”

And noting her wreck at Daytona in Saturday’s Nationwide Series race that instantly totaled her car, Kyl said, “I don’t know how she didn’t get really hurt. She’s just getting better and better.”

Kyl, who counts many NASCAR executives and drivers as friends since his days as a track watcher as a kid, also said that it’s clear the drivers have respect for her talents.
