Unattended candle torches apartment building
Investigators are blaming an unwatched candle for a fire that ripped through a three-story apartment building in Oxon Hill, leaving 24 families without a home just two days after Christmas.

The fire broke out about 6 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson Bridge Apartments.
Prince George’s County fire officials say the fire, which eventually became a three-alarm blaze, took nearly two hours to bring under control and caused up to $1.5 million in damage.
No one was injured, but all 24 units of the building were damaged, the Associated Press reported. The Red Cross is lending a hand.
Body found inside burning car
Prince George’s County police are investigating the death of a man whose badly charred body was found inside the wreckage of an automobile late Saturday.
The unidentified man was discovered after fire fighters doused a flaming car on Baden Naylor Road near Brandywine.
Man stabbed at Christmas party
A 33-year-old man was in critical condition over the weekend after being stabbed at a Germantown Christmas party.
Edgar Peralta, of Reading, Pa., was rushed to a local hospital after a dispute among guests and hosts at the home got out of control. The stabber fled the home.
Authorities are seeking Emerson Arnoldo Chavez Estrada for questioning in the stabbing, the Associated Press reported.
Ice blamed in fatal Wheaton accident
Mongtomery County police are blaming icy roads for an accident that killed a man in Wheaton early Sunday morning.
The man, whose name was withheld pending family notice, was driving a silver Toyota 4Runner in the northbound lanes of Muncaster Mill Road near Bowie Mill Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The car hit a curb and then slammed into a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
