Capitalism is all about living off another’s sweat Re: “No man has the right to live off another’s sweat,” June 14

Walter Williams’ self-centered shortsightedness is only matched by his complete lackof irony. He contends that “no man has the right to live off another’s sweat,” but seems to miss the point that this is the cornerstone of capitalism.

The boss lives directly off the sweat of the worker to the ridiculous tune of roughly 400 times the worker’s wages. What entitled him to that? Does Williams honestly believe that corporate profits were all earned exclusively by hardworking millionaires who came from wealthy families, attended good schools, etc?

This is why we use taxes for social programs and education to benefit all. If no one should be forcibly used to serve the purposes of another, the working class is the one being denied what is theirs. How can one justify a financial system that requires the majority of us to toil for the bosses’ gain, or else starve without medical care?

Taking the lead in population control

Re: “Deportations won’t solve unemployment problem,” June 13

I was deeply disturbed after reading Alexandria resident Christopher Marsh’s letter.Buried under his assertion that the United States must take responsibility for developing countries’ unemployed masses, Marsh vocalizes a frightening notion:”We must regulate our reproduction and treat every kid like he or she really matters, with none to waste. …”

Marsh’s belief, widely held on the Left, is that population control through “regulated reproduction” and abortions will serve some greater cause. Author Thomas Friedman opined in a recent New York Times piece that “the Earth is full.” Friedman looks to China, where the government limits the number of children couples may have, by force when necessary.

This belief in population control runs deep in the Left’s environmental community. Friedman, Al Gore, Marsh and others are quick to point out that we should make do with less: less goods and less people. However, if forced population control and regulated reproduction truly are the answer, then why can’t Marsh and his cohorts be the first to give it a try?

Obama’s economic plan is a disaster

Here’s the Obama economic plan in a nutshell: If a company (General Motors) is not making a profit, subsidize it; if it is making a profit (the oil industry), kill it; don’t drill for oil so that oil and all other prices increase; and pay people not to work.

The result is that a lower percentage of Americans are working today than at any time in the last 40 years. In other words, this so-called plan is a complete disaster.

Either this is a deliberate plan to wreck the United States or this president is completely incompetent. Take your pick. Either way, he is very bad for the United States.
