As soon as Sen. Barack Obama muttered the phrase “typical white person” when referencing his grandmother in a March speech, the owners of Greenworks Florist, which has several locations throughout Washington, decided to get the slogan onto a T-shirt.
And, surprise, surprise: They’re selling quite well. Store officials say they’ve been flying off the shelf, selling more than 20 in the first weekend alone. But it’s not just for college kids and pranksters: The store acknowledges that even some of their high profile clients have purchased them.
