Virginia rest stops to get snazzy

Motorists on Virginia’s highways will soon find the state’s rest stops to be a bit snazzier.

A private contractor, CRH Catering of Pennsylvania, will soon be installing touch-screen kiosks that provide information on Virginia travel destinations, as well as ATMs and upgraded vending machines with more snack, beverage and merchandise options.

Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the contract Tuesday, saying it would provide the state $1 million annually through revenue-sharing payments and a guaranteed rights fee.

Secretary of Transportation Sean Connaughton said Virginia rest stops get 90,000 visitors daily.
