Cruz has a ‘major announcement’ coming

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz teased a major announcement for his presidential campaign in Indiana on Wednesday.

After losing five states on Tuesday to Republican front-runner Donald Trump, Cruz is calling attention to a rally he will hold in Indianapolis in the afternoon.

“We have an event this afternoon. 4 p.m. at The Pavillion at Pan Am. We’ll be making a major announcement at 4 p.m.,” Cruz told reporters in Indianapolis on Wednesday. “So I encourage folks come join us at 4 p.m. Hope to see all of y’all there.”

Asked whether he would be announcing an endorsement or introducing a running mate, Cruz would not provide additional details.

He told reporters the attribute he would look for in any running mate “is that he or she should be prepared to step in and fulfill the role as president.”

But the Texas senator also praised Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, and his predecessor Mitch Daniels, who now serves as president at Purdue University.

“There have been two incredible governors, Mitch Daniels [and] Mike Pence that have reduced taxes, that have reduced regulations and that has helped the job situation here in Indiana,” Cruz said. “But Indiana struggles with the 800 pound weight of the federal government still holding down job growth. My top priority as president is jobs and economic growth.”

Next Tuesday’s primary in the Hoosier State could determine whether Cruz has a fighting chance at the GOP convention against Donald Trump.
