HeroesOfTomorrow.org, founded by Smith, a former Navy SEAL, is a program that has been operating for 10 years. Smith invites people who want to train to become a SEAL, Army Ranger, or pass any kind of military or police fitness test to join him for free workouts in Severna Park. Who can work out?
Anybody who wants to come and work out can come. I never say no, but some of these workouts are very advanced. We’ve had several FBI agents, women’s basketball teams. Anybody who needs to pass a fitness test in their future, come on out because that’s what we focus on.
Why do you do this?
These are my workouts that I invite people to come join. Its just something that a group can do and its a better dynamic because as a group they work harder. It keeps me young. It’s fun mentoring these guys because the same questions I had when I was 20 years old and wanting to become a Navy SEAL, these guy have — and I am able to answer those questions for them.
How many of the people you train actually become Special Operations?
I will personally see over 3,000 people this year. The folks who come out here specifically to train with me, a majority of them
want to become SEALs or some from of Special Ops guys. That’s the kind of baseline we keep it at as far as the level of fitness the shows up.
How long can people train with you?
They can stay as long as they want. There is no time limit. If they can handle it, the more the merrier.
Has there been anyone who has trained with you to get into the military who didn’t cut it?
Yes, that has happened, but I typically see an 80- to 85-percent graduation rate.
What is donation money used for?
100 percent of donations go to me buying kids swim passes to use our local community center pool.
