Perry supporters rally against ‘Democrat Games’

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Dozens of supporters of Gov. Rick Perry are gathering at the courthouse before his expected arrival to be booked on a state indictment.

The atmosphere outside the downtown Austin courthouse Tuesday afternoon felt more like a campaign event than a court proceeding. Sign-carrying supporters of Perry mingled with reporters, political consultants and curious passers-by.

Some supporters held signs saying, “Stop Democrat Games.”

Perry faces a two-count indictment alleging he abused power when he vetoed money going to a Travis County prosecutors’ unit that investigates public corruption.

He has said he vetoed the money after embattled Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg refused to resign following a drunken-driving arrest.

Supporters organized a rally to coincide with Perry’s expected 5 p.m. arrival at the courthouse.
