Election Primary Results: September 11, 2018

  • It’s not quite the New Hampshire primary we hear about every four years, but Granite State voters will decide some key race key races on Tuesday. Democrats will choose a challenger for Republican Gov. Chris Sununu, whose father was also governor and whose brother was a senator. Former state Sen. Molly Kelly is running against former Portsmouth Mayor Steve Marchand.

New Hampshire has become a swing state, but Sununu has a job approval rating above 60 percent.

Both parties are also going to pick their candidates for New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District, where Democratic Rep. Carol Shea-Porter is retiring. Bernie Sanders’ son Levi is running for the Democratic nomination. So is executive councilor Chris Pappas, former Shea-Porter aide Naomi Andrews, state Rep. Mindi Messmer, and former Obama administration official Maura Sullivan, among others.

On the Republican side, there has been a tough contest between Andrew Sanborn and Eddie Edwards. This congressional seat has flipped back and forth between the parties.
