Fifty-eight percent of U.S. adults say it’s very or somewhat likely that a foreign government will interfere in the 2018 midterm elections in November, according to a new Axios poll published Tuesday.
While only 42 percent of Republicans feel there will be interference, 77 percent of Democrats believe there is that chance.
Despite the belief that there will be interference by a foreign actor, 64 percent of adults polled said they believe that votes will be counted accurately in the midterms.
There is more concern about states that use electronic machines to vote and count votes because they are vulnerable to manipulation or interference through hacking. Sixty-seven percent of those asked are worried about manipulation of electronic voting machines, while only 48 percent are concerned with paper ballot tampering.
The poll surveyed 2,499 U.S. adults and has a margin of error of 2.5 percentage points.
