Capitol Police aware of ‘possible plot to breach the Capitol’ on March 4

The Capitol Police is “aware of” a possible attack on the United States Capitol.

The law enforcement agency made the announcement in a Wednesday press release explaining that it has “obtained intelligence” about a planned attack on the Capitol by an identified militia group.

“The United States Capitol Police Department is aware of and prepared for any potential threats towards members of Congress or towards the Capitol complex. We have obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4,” it said. “We have already made significant security upgrades to include establishing a physical structure and increasing manpower to ensure the protection of Congress, the public and our police officers.”

CAPITOL POLICE RAMP UP SECURITY AHEAD OF MARCH 4, COINED BY SOME AS THE ‘TRUE INAUGURATION DAY’

The Capitol Police will have “additional personnel” around the Capitol grounds on Thursday.

The threat is likely connected to the wide-ranging QAnon conspiracy theories that claim the world is run by a secret cabal of satanic-worshiping, cannibalistic pedophiles, which includes members of Hollywood and the Democratic Party. Believers claim former President Donald Trump was elected to help uncover the conspiracy and, in the latest iteration, believe Trump will reclaim his role as commander in chief on March 4.

Security in the Capitol has remained high since rioters breached the Capitol on Jan. 6. During the attack, which was perpetrated mostly by Trump supporters there to express their discontent with Congress certifying President Biden’s electoral victory, rioters clashed with police officers outside the Capitol before many were able to break their way inside.

Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old veteran and Trump supporter, was shot and killed by a law enforcement officer as she allegedly tried to breach a door that led to the House Speaker’s Lobby. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick died shortly after the riot, but there are several questions that remain unanswered regarding his cause of death. They were among the seven people who died either during the riot or in its aftermath.
