With a predictability that history proved in Ferguson, Missouri and Baltimore, Maryland after rioting, the defund police movement is harvesting a crop of death and injury.

Murder rates are rising in cities across American as police depart, retire or relax enforcement in the face of resentment and the fear of being charged with crimes during chaotic run-ins with would-be offenders.

In 2021, the crisis is often worsened by politicians and national journalists who appear to be taking sides with those fomenting disorder in the streets. Doug McKelway reports.
