Dulles toll bickering continues

Virginia Senate candidate Patrick Forrest continued sparring about the prices of Dulles Toll Road trips Friday.

Responding to a Washington Examiner blog post in which Del. Ken Plum, D-Reston, was quoted calling Forrest’s “No $17 toll” campaign a “straw man” and “one man’s speculation,” Forrest, a Republican, pointed out that his $17 figure comes from documents published by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the group in charge of raising the tolls to pay for the Dulles rail project.

“With all due respect to Delegate Plum, these are not one person’s speculations,” Forrest said.

The toll road prices are quickly becoming a campaign issue for Forrest and his opponent, Democratic Sen. Janet Howell.

MWAA released the projected toll costs, which could climb as high as $20 round-trip by 2019. But no one knows for sure how high tolls will go because it will depend on how much the multibillion project ends up costing and what additional state and federal financial aid local officials could secure for it.
