Grassley: 'Jig is up' on Trump collusion investigation

Sen. Chuck Grassley told reporters Wednesday that “everybody was sold a bunch of snake oil” when it comes to the accusations that President Trump colluded with Russians ahead of the 2016 election.

Grassley is a senior member and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, where Attorney General William Barr answered questions about special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into those allegations.

Leaving the hearing room, Grassley defended Barr, who was criticized by Democrats in the hearing over his handling of the Mueller report findings. Democrats say Barr mislead them over the accuracy of his memo about Mueller’s findings, in which he exonerated Trump.

Grassley defended Barr as “totally transparent” and suggested partisan bias against the president, who Mueller cleared of collusion but left open whether he obstructed the investigation.

“The Democrats and you folks in the media are not concerned about the report,” Grassley told reporters. “I think you are concerned the results are not what you expected. I think you are finding out that everybody was sold a bunch of snake oil, and now, the jig is up.”
