After announcing her bid for the presidency Sunday afternoon, Hillary Clinton announced in the evening that she was on a road trip to Iowa, which holds the nation’s first nominating contest next year.

“Road trip! Loaded the van & set off for IA,” Hillary Clinton wrote on Twitter. “Met a great family when we stopped this afternoon. Many more to come.”

In 2008, Clinton was an early frontrunner, but ended up losing the state to Barack Obama, who used the victory as a launch pad to his eventual victory in the presidential race. CNN reported, “She is scheduled to have her first campaign appearance on Tuesday in the small eastern Iowa town of Monticello.”
