The Department of Health and Human Services on Monday afternoon accidentally posted President Trump’s proposed budget for the agency.
Several reporters caught the document and questioned whether it was real before it was removed from the agency’s website. The department’s budget had not been expected until Tuesday, with the rest of Trump’s full budget proposal.
The proposed Health and Human Services budget appears to assume passage of a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare and additional cuts of $610 billion to Medicaid, which covers low-income Americans. Overall, however, Trump proposed spending slightly more than last year, and the agency’s budget will total $1.1 trillion. A president’s budget reflects the priorities of the administration, with final decisions on spending made by Congress. When asked about the document, agency spokeswoman Alleigh Marré said: “The only official version of the HHS budget will be released by the Office of Management and Budget at 11 a.m. tomorrow. At that time, Budget Director Mulvaney will hold a press briefing and address any questions.”
