The District’s Department of Parks and Recreation is kicking off its 29th annual Senior Games on May 7 and registration runs today through April 27 for the city’s age-50-and-older athletes. Called “Fit 4 Life,” the D.C. Senior Games features activities like swimming, basketball, bowling, tennis, track and field, horseshoe toss, archery and softball.
Athletes who participate in the D,C, Senior Games can qualify to compete in the National Senior Games, which are held every odd-numbered year. In the 2011 games, more than 50 seniors represented the District at the National Senior Games in Houston. Next year’s games are scheduled for July 21–Aug. 5 in Cleveland.
The D.C. Senior Games is produced in partnership with the District of Columbia Office on Aging and scheduled for May 7–11 at various locations throughout the city. More than 160 athletes competed in last year’s games.
The cost to register is $25 per athlete and includes a t-shirt. Seniors can register online, submit their application in person at one of DPR’s 21 senior centers or mail their entry form to:
