Hundreds of D.C.’s top public school teachers were honored Monday night with a celebration at the Kennedy Center. Among the scheduled speakers at the Standing Ovation for D.C. Teachers event was Mayor Adrian Fenty, Education Secretary Arne Duncan and Redskins Hall of Fame cornerback Darrell Green. The event celebrated the 16 percent of D.C.’s teachers who were rated “highly effective” under the new evaluation system. Proceeds from the event will go to the D.C. Public Education Fund. – Kristen Byrne
