UPDATE,11:30 a.m.: The Wheaton Metro station on the Red Line has reopened, but one escalator and one elevator are still out of commission.

An escalator problem has shut down Metro’s Wheaton station on the Red Line since 5:45 p.m. Monday.

Metro spokeswoman Cathy Asato said buses are being assembled to carry passengers from the Wheaton, Glenmont and Forest Glen stations around the closures. She did not know when the problem would be resolved.

Asato said the station’s elevators were already out of service before the escalator malfunction, and said repair crews are trying to fix the problem.
