For one reason or another, I haven’t done a Michael Vick cartoon until now. The guy obviously is an idiot and deserves whatever punishment is dished out. I’m sure most people feel the same way, and Snoopy in his vulture impersonation seemed like the proper personification (even though he’s a dog) of that feeling.
I had a few different ideas for this cartoon, and it ultimately came down to two different, albeit similar, versions. Here’s the one I decided not to do:
My editor was happy with both ideas, and the otherpeople I ran them past were the same way. I half joked I would flip a coin to decide which to draw. The reason why I didn’t choose the sketch above is because it seemed too “cute” for the subject — and maybe too clichéd. The cruelty exhibited by Vick and his friends was so vicious, and while I wanted the cartoon to be humorous, it needed to have a bit of a bite (no pun intended).
