Another candidate has joined in an already-crowded race for State Delegate in District 13, which represents East Columbia, North Laurel and Fulton.

Democrat Nina Basu has announced she is running against three incumbents who are contending for re-election, Democrats Neil Quinter, Frank Turner and Shane Pendergrass. County Council Member Guy Guzzone also is vying for a seat.

The Republican contenders are Rick Bowers, Loretta Gaffney and Mary Beth Tung.

Basu, of Columbia, is a law student and the vice-chairwoman of the Long Reach Village Board. She said her top priorities are affordable housing, improved roads and public transportation in Columbia, and lessening the strain on overcrowded public schools.
