Caps First Period Update

Caps 2, Avalanche 0

Tomas Fleischmann and Mike Knuble score in the first period for the Caps. At 5,200 feet you better have a lead late when playing a game in Denver. The altitude slowly works its magic as the night goes on. Brooks Laich almost had another one, but replay officials in Toronto say he kicked it in. Washington is skating well. Caps do have to kill off the latter stages of a Colorado power play when they start the second period. Congrats to forward Kyle Wilson who on his first three shifts had an assist, a wraparound that he couldn’t quite finish and a breakaway that was stopped by Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson. Wilson, who turned 25 today, earned his first NHL point with the assist on Fleischmann’s goal. Knuble scored on a 2-on-1 on a pass from Alex Ovechkin.
