Miami (Ohio)

Record » 22-12-5

Coach » Enrico Blasi (10th season)

Outlook » The Red Hawks are playing in the Frozen Four for the first time. But they, too, have plenty of postseason experience. Miami has reached the NCAA tournament five times in the last six years under Blasi. And don’t let the No. 4 seed fool you. The Red Hawks beat No. 2 seed Notre Dame twice during the regular season. They also produced wins over Ohio State, Michigan and Michigan State. Five different Miami players have at least 10 goals, led by sophomore F Carter Camper (20 goals, 20 assists). Sophomore F Pat Cannone (11 goals, 24 assists) and senior F Justin Mercier (14 goals, 15 assists) are also part of a deep group up front. The Red Hawks did need help, however, to get into the NCAAs after losing its CCHA conference tournament opener to Northern Michigan.

Bemidji State

Record » 20-15-1

Coach » Tom Serratore (8th season)

Outlook » First appearance in the Frozen Four for the CHA champions and the first No. 16 seed to ever reach the NCAA semifinals. But don’t underestimate the Beavers, who were a powerhouse at the NAIA, Division III and Division II levels, winning a combined 13 titles before ascending to Division I in 1999. Senior F Tyler Scofield leads Bemidji State with 22 goals. Only two of his teammates have even reached double figures. Sophomore F Matt Read has a team-high 39 points (14 goals, 25 assists). Sophomore G Matt Dalton started 30 games and has a save percentage of .921. The Beavers, who began the year 8-13, upset both No. 2 seed Notre Dame and No. 9 Cornell to advance. Serratore is a 1987 alumnus of Bemidji State.

Boston University

Record » 33-6-4

Coach » Jack Parker (36th year)

Outlook » Hockey royalty among the newcomers at this year’s Frozen Four. Parker is a legend with over 800 career wins at Boston. Also a graduate of his school — one of three head-coaching alums at this year’s event — he has led the Terriers to four NCAA championships. The other three teams have combined for one Frozen Four appearance total and none has won a title. BU won the Hockey East conference. It has seven different players with at least 30 points, led by sophomore F Colin Wilson (15 goals, 37 assists). Senior Fs Brandon Yip and Jason Lawrence have scored 20 and 24 goals respectively. Freshman G Kieran Millan has started 33 games with a save percentage of .923. He has lost just twice this season. The Terriers have been to the Frozen Four 21 times.

Vermont

Record » 22-11-5

Coach » Kevin Sneddon (6th season)

Outlook » Conference rivals of Boston U. in Hockey East, the Catamounts actually beat BU twice during the regular season. They also lost, 7-2, in a third meeting. It if Vermont’s first Frozen Four appearance since 1996 and just its second overall. It had to beat Yale in the first round and then outlasted Air Force in an epic quarterfinal that went two overtimes. The Catamounts entered the tournament as a No. 3 seed. They have never beaten a team ranked No. 1 in the country — the task they face on Thursday night. Vermont has few offensive stars. Junior F Viktor Stalberg has 24 goals and 21 assists. No one else has cracked 20 in either category. But the Catamounts have a solid, veteran defense in front of freshman G Rob Madore, who has a 2.25 goals-against average.
