Irish eyes were frowning

U.S. pols need to brush up on their hospitality. At Monday’s St. Patrick’s Day lunch on Capitol Hill with President Bush, Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the menu had only a tiny bit of Irish food (potatoes, natch) and not a touch of Guinness or Jameson whiskey. Instead? Red and white wine. From California.

But Ahern should have known what he was in for when Pelosi introduced an Irish-American band and said they would be playing “Celtic” music … pronouncing it like you would pronounce “Boston Celtics.”
