Gamers’ Edge

‘Transformers: The Game’

What meets the eye” just about covers it.

Given more than two decades of source material and a built-in fan base, the team at Travellers Tales, adored for their work on “LEGO Star Wars,” have dropped the robot ball on this one.

Aside from annoying impromptu time limits forcing you to transform and drive instead of run, there is very little incentive to transform during the Autobot missions.

The game’s fun comes in the form of the Deceptacon missions, where you are rewarded for destroying your environment and can transform into jets.

The game plays out the plot of the film, and missions end with cut scenes following the story. They seemed to be animated to the lowest common denominator and look like their PS2 counterpart even on PS3 and 360.

Physics and collision detection are sloppy, which leaves the battles less than rewarding. Sure, Jazz can crack Starscream in the face with a car, but you don’t really feel it.

‘Crush’

An unusual but amazing PSP title, “Crush” puts you into the subconscious of insomniac Danny as he works through his problems in the form of marble-collecting puzzles.

As you turn the camera, you can flatten your perspective from 3-D to 2-D to navigate the levels in an effort to get the best time, collect all of Danny’s marbles and help him get a good night’s sleep.

This game takes the flip of Wii’s “Super Paper Mario” to a whole new level. A must-have for puzzle fans.
