MONTICELLO, N.Y. (AP) — Empire Resorts says it will no longer allow people under 18 years old to enter its Monticello Casino and Raceway, in efforts to prevent underage gambling.

The new policy takes effect Friday.

In the past, underage people with adult supervision were allowed in certain non-gambling areas of the resort. Company officials say the new policy is intended to serve as a deterrent for adults who are tempted to permit their underage children to join them on the gaming floor, as well as to keep young people from sneaking into the gambling area.

New York law prohibits gambling under the age of 18 at all OTBs, horse racing facilities and other gambling venues.
