WESTWEGO, La. (AP) — A company’s plans to expand chemical storage capacity at a terminal in Westwego remain alive, despite an earlier hurdle.
The Times-Picayune reports (http://bit.ly/10wdKzi) that Blackwater Midstream LLC unveiled a plan Monday calling for an expansion twice as large as the one presented in January, when council members enacted a nine-month moratorium on industrial expansion that was lifted a month later.

Frank Marrocco, Blackwater’s chief commercial officer, said Monday the company proposes to add six new storage tanks, each capable of holding 50,000 barrels of non-hazardous, nonflammable chemicals.
Monday’s meeting included newly elected council members who take office in July. Marrocco didn’t get the kind of pushback he got when last year’s plan was followed by the moratorium. Council members did note that some residents near the terminal have safety concerns.
