The Daily Outrage: Welfare for Republicans

Published October 22, 2011 4:00am ET

Who: Federal Election Commission What: It has awarded $18 million to organizers of the 2012 Republican National Convention. The payment, which Democrats will also receive, comes from the Presidential Election Campaign Fund, which taxpayers fill by checking a box on their tax returns.

Why it’s an outrage: Neither party needs this kind of welfare. Both are perfectly capable of raising money. And when the U.S. House passed a bill to end the subsidy earlier this year, Senate Democrats killed it.

Where to vent: Call the FEC at 202-694-1000.
