A woman who had her car stolen Wednesday was charged with leaving the vehicle unattended with the engine running.
Takoma Park police said the woman filled up her black BMW with gasoline at the W-Express gas station in the 6400 block of New Hampshire Avenue, then went inside to pay with the keys in the ignition and the car engine still on. The car was not locked.
Police said a man jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off into the District of Columbia.
When police arrived, they charged the woman with leaving the car unattended without stopping the engine.
Police are still looking for the car and suspect. The car was a black 2006 BMW 325i with Maryland tag 3BA D78. The suspect was described as a 20-25 year old black male, 5-foot-8, 145 pounds, last seen wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt.
