ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A development team is ending its bid to build a casino near Albany to focus on an alternative casino proposal in Orange County.
Cordish Companies and Penn National Gaming announced Wednesday that they will request a refund of the $1 million application fee paid to state regulators for the Rensselaer County proposal.
The two companies continue to work on their Orange County proposal, which they say provides the “best opportunity” to win a casino license.
The number of casino proposals now stands at 19. Up to four casinos are authorized for three regions: the Albany-Saratoga area, the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region and the Catskills and mid-Hudson River Valley, an area that includes Orange County.
Applicants have until June 30 to submit final proposals.
