Nothing against actress Gina Lollobrigida and Humane Society chief Wayne Pacelle, but we were starting to worry that the star power at this year’s National Italian American Foundation Gala would not live up to years past. But, NIAF has stepped up to the plate with a last-minute addition in the form of Leonardo DiCaprio, who will be honored at the October 18 event, held at the Washington Hilton.
Speaking of movie stars … considering that most Washingtonians associate Union Station with screaming schoolchildren, subpar food and swarms of tourists, it might come as a shock to learn that the train station was the scene of a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie shoot on Tuesday. Still, cast and crew from CBS’ forthcoming “Unorthodox” set up shop there yesterday. The movie stars Lauren Ambrose, Adam Kaufman, Susie Essman, Ricki Lake and Mercedes Ruehl and is based on P’nenah Goldstein’s play “Loving Leah.”
