Now in his final year, President Bush seems to be getting more preoccupied with his legacy — he’s even sweating the small stuff.
While the president was in the ESPN broadcast booth Sunday night during the MLB opener at Nationals Park, play-by-play man Jon Miller prompted him with this statement: “Every year since you’ve been president, George [Will] has put on a special baseball dinner held at the White House.”

But the president wasn’t going to let Will, the conservative pundit, baseball expert and all-around smart guy, take all the credit.
“That’s one way to put it,” he came back. “Another way is that George W. Bush hosts the dinner and George attends. He puts together the list.”
Well.
Bush has hosted such stars as former Cub Mark Grace, the Mets’ David Wright, the Padres’ Trevor Hoffman, manager Lou Piniella and Miller himself, for the low-key affair, which usually takes place in spring.
Will did not return a call seeking comment.
