He hits the ball hard, doesn’t he?” asked Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., after his time on the court with Andre Agassi on Friday. “It’s a lot faster game than we usually play.”

Dicks led one of 16 teams of Washingtonians that got to run drills with Agassi at the FitzGerald Tennis Center, as part of the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation’s Round Robin.

“We did all right — we got the ball back,” said Rep. Fred Upton, R-Mich.

Rep.Jane Harman, D-Calif., WUSA 9’s Brett Haber, and Mark Ein, the owner of the new Washington Kastles World Team Tennis franchise, were also among those taking their hacks at Andre. The eight-time Grand Slam champ generally took it easy on his foes, unless, like NBC lobbyist Bob Okun, they showed some game of their own, at which point Agassi couldn’t resist unleashing one of his blistering forehands.

So how’s D.C.’s tennis talent, Andre? “Not bad,” he offered.

Also on hand: former women’s world No. 4 Zina Garrison and former doubles No. 1 Richey Reneberg.

Later that evening, Agassi and AOL’s Steve Case were honored at WTEF’s annual gala at the Washington Hilton.
