Classic Tex-Mex restaurant Austin Grill opens its doors, and its tequila bottles, with a new series Wednesdays focusing on the top singer-songwriters in the area.
For tonight?s opening night, local acoustic player Bob Sima plays host with his silvery voice and poetic lyrics, also found on his solo CD, “Pour It On.”
“I’ve always written my own materials ? ideas just start bubbling up and I flow with it, playing with the theme and chord progressions until it comes together,” he said.
As the lead singer-songwriter for the successful acoustic power trio, Stereopool, Sima has won numerous awards for his original songs and played many of the top venuesin the mid-Atlantic region.
Appropriately, the opening night performance at Austin Grill will also showcase the current president of the Baltimore Songwriters Association, Karyn Oliver. Her array of musical styles ranges from throbbing rock with a feminine tease to pure, silky love songs that will shatter your heart. She displays a vocal versatility in her mix of blues and rock, accompanied by soft emotion.
Acclaimed recording artist Eric Avey brings a country flavor to the trio. He contributes strong lead vocals and plays bass, keyboard and drums with several bands, including Acoustic Earth Worm and Emmitt Kellar.
” ?The Songwriter in the Round? concept is fun for the performers and the audience,” Sima said of the new series. “The featured performers take turns presenting originals, sometimes solo but often backing each other up with harmonies and instrumentals that create amazing energy.”
