Sibley: Back in business

You may remember Montgomery Blair Sibley, the controversial lawyer who defended the late “D.C. Madam,” Deborah Jeane Palfrey. So what’s Sibley up to these days?

Well, he’s taking on another client sure to be even more divisive than Palfrey. At the National Press Club on Wednesday, he’ll be appearing at a news conference with one Larry Sinclair, a man who’s alleging a sexual encounter with Barack Obama.

When reached via e-mail, Sibley told Yeas & Nays, “I take on clients who need representation and can’t find it through traditional sources which are loath to de-rail their career trajectories by associating with unpopular individuals. I think I get that from my great, great-grandfather, Montgomery Blair, who represented Dred Scott.”

Meanwhile today, at a hearing in federal district court, a judge will hear a motion on the government’s move to seize Palfrey’s assets (in the wake of her death by apparent suicide, her estate is now contesting the forfeiture).
