Trump schedules his first rally since taking office

President Trump will mark his third consecutive weekend in Florida with a massive rally, similar to those that became a staple of his unorthodox presidential campaign.

According to the Trump campaign website, the president will hold a rally Saturday evening at an airport hanger in Melbourne, Fla. It is unclear whether he will spend the whole weekend in the Sunshine State like he has done so far this month.

Trump repeatedly hinted during his bid for the White House that he would consider hosting rallies while serving as president because of the enjoyment he gets from interacting with his supporters. During the transition phase, he held several “thank you” rallies in battleground states where he won.

The timing of the rally is likely to be contentious, as the administration is facing mounting concerns about ousted national security adviser Mike Flynn and is correspondence with Russian officials about Obama-era sanctions on Moscow.

Trump, who asked Flynn to resign from his senior White House post, told reporters on Wednesday that the retired Army general was a “wonderful man” who happened to be treated “very unfairly” by the media.
