The Pumpkin-Carver-In-Chief

Well, I’m back from Columbus, bushy-eyed and bright-tailed after sitting in car seats, hotel chairs and restaurant booths for the majority of my trip. I really enjoyed a number of speakers at this year’s OSU Festival of Cartoon Art: Paul Pope, P. Craig Russell, Nick Anderson and Mike Peters, to name a few. It was also a pleasant surprise to see cartoonists Mike Thompson and Rob Rogers at the festival.

Alright, back to cartooning … There was some discussion about labeling the pumpkin “Iran,” but I think the cartoon works fine without it. In fact, I like leaving it unlabeled because it speaks to the general attitude of President Bush’s Middle East foreign policy. The prevailing wisdom in the Oval Office seems to be shoot first, ask questions about reconstruction later. I wouldn’t have a problem with using military force against Iran, if there’s a clear and present danger to the United States. Until then, we should exhaust all diplomatic and financial options to bring Iran to its senses.
